Fully Catered Activity Weeks

For those wishing to sample the delights of Le Vieux Monastere and its’ beautiful surroundings we also provide fully catered activity holidays in May, June & September. Themed weeks may include painting, arts & crafts, wine tasting, walking, cycling and photography. Your hosts and course facilitators will be on hand to ensure that you have a creative and fun break.

Knitting Workshop: French Treats 13th - 20th June 2009

Following the success of our knitting workshop in 2008 (as featured in Lets Knit) we are pleased to confirm the programme for our 2009 event. Renowned designer Sasha Kagan and Rowan design consultant Tracy Chapman will be tutoring the workshops to include design, finishing techniques, and colour work, incorporating these into your own personal project for the week. The workshops form part of an inclusive programme which provides a complete and relaxing holiday experience.

Quilting Workshop Holidays September 2009 and June 2010

Following  the success of our programme of residential workshop holidays since 2006 we are pleased to introduce hand quilting to our range of activities.

Hand Appliqué  5 – 11 September 2009 with Shirley Bloomfield

Hand appliqué specialist Shirley Bloomfield will be tutoring the workshops and sharing her expertise to help you develop your hand appliqué skills and achieve perfect points, smooth curves and much more. Learn how to use fabric print to give subtle shading and realism to your designs. Shirley can adapt the course to suit all levels of abilities whether you are a complete beginner or a more experienced quilter looking for fresh ideas.

Shirley teaches hand applique to quilt groups, in shops and at exhibitions, and at the prestigious Elly Sienkiewicz Appliqué Academy in the USA. She also exhibits and demonstrates her techniques at many Quilt Shows in the UK. Shirley publishes a range of appliqué patterns and her designs have been published in the leading UK quilt magazines.  Her book The Appliqué Garden; Baltimore Style With An English Twist (published by Teamwork Craftbooks, 2006) is a definitive book for hand appliqué techniques. www.shirleybloomfield.co.uk

Heirloom Hand Quilting 19 - 26 June 2010 with Sandie Lush

Hand quilter Sandie Lush will be tutoring the workshops covering such aspects as designing, marking and preparation, and finishing techniques.

Sandie is an expert on the traditions and techniques involved in wholecloth quilting. In 1993 she entered her first wholecloth quilt into a competitive quilt show and has been a regular prize winner ever since for design and skills. Her quilts have won three separate UK national championships, have placed first in the major American quilt shows and been exhibited in Europe, Australia and Japan. In 2007 Sandie had a showcase gallery at The Festival of Quilts, Birmingham. Her work has featured in Quilters’ Newsletter Magazine as well as in all the British quilting publications. Sandie has also been a contributor to several books including The Quilter’s Companion for which she wrote the wholecloth and hand quilting sections.  www.sandielush.co.uk
