Set among sunflower fields and vineyards Le Vieux Monastère and its grounds provide privacy and seclusion within the stone walls that surround the property. This ensures a safe and secure environment for children, allowing parents the freedom to relax and enjoy our tranquil location and facilities. We also offer babysitting to enable you to enjoy that special evening out. Whilst Charente Maritime offers many attractions and places of interest to visit, Le Vieux Monastere is a perfect place in which to soak up the sun and unwind.

Swimming Pool - 12m x 6m heated swimming pool, with shallow steps for easy access, heated shower and sun terrace with stunning south facing views across open countryside and floodlit after dark. There are plenty of sunloungers and patio furniture and the entire pool area is fully enclosed to restrict the unaccompanied access of young children. The pool is heated to 28 degrees from May to October making us an ideal choice for early and late season holidays.

Activities - Our games room includes table tennis, table football, children's toys and book exchange. We also have a library of DVD’s available.

The large area of lawn lying central to the grounds is bordered by the cottages, creating a pleasant village green atmosphere. It is a perfect play area for all sorts of outdoor games including boules and croquet, volleyball and kwik cricket. There is a swing set for the younger children and we also offer bicycle hire.

In addition to on-site activities there are facilities for golf, tennis, fishing, canoeing, karting, horse riding and water skiing, all available nearby. Our location offers numerous attractive walks and bicycle rides which can be enjoyed by all the family the moment one steps outside our gates. For those needing to stay in contact, we also offer a wi-fi broadband connection.

Sun Terrace - This patio area has spectacular south facing views across the valley and is our venue for holding our welcome drinks and optional weekly group meals (in high season). This comfortable seating area is also a natural magnet for guests to relax and savour early evening drinks whilst absorbing the unique atmosphere of the historic site. At the same time this provides the opportunity to make new friends and exchange stories with your fellow guests in the most convivial of environments.

The delightful village of St Hilaire de Villefranche is a 3 minute car ride away (10 minutes by bicycle) and offers traditional village facilities including boulangeries, shops, post office, café / bars, restaurant, bank and a pharmacy.
